What is the oldest form of wood framing?

No one knows when timber framing started, but it was a very long time ago. The oldest known timber-framed structure is still standing in Japan. It was built in 690 A.D. Until the Industrial Revolution, most timber-framing was accomplished without the use of nails. Talk about strong!
