What is the name of the empire that lasted from 661 to 750 and was supplanted by the Abbasid Caliphate?
Answer Umayyad Caliphate
The Umayyad Caliphate were the successors of the Rashidun Caliphate and began their reign in 661 after an Islamic civil war. Under Umayyad rule, the caliphate continued to expand reaching the areas of India, Central Asia, Asia Minor, Northern Africa, and Spain. When the caliphate fell to the Abbasids in 750, one member of the Umayyad family fled to Spain and continued the dynasty until the early 11th century when it fell in civil war.
