What is the name of the empire that finally came to an end in 1453 with the fall of Constantinople?

The Byzantine Empire, otherwise known as the Eastern Roman Empire, called themselves Romans and considered themselves to be the same empire as that of Rome beginning with Augustus. Culturally however, the Byzantine Empire was much closer to being Greek than Roman. The Byzantine Empire fell in 1453 with the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople.
