What is the name of the ancient city that is now the capital of Uzbekistan?

The city of Tashkent likely dates back to either the 1st or 2nd century BCE. Tashkent was the capital of the U.S.S.R. republic of Turkestan after the 1917 revolution, but in 1924, Samarkand became the first capital of the republic of Uzbekistan. The capital was moved to Tashkent in 1930.
