So close, yet so far away...What is the closest galaxy to us?

Answer Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy

We used to think Andromeda was the closest galaxy to the Milky Way. But in 2003, it was discovered that the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy was closer. In fact, it's a lot closer at only 25,000 lightyears from the Sun, while Andromeda is 2.5 million light-years away. Andromeda is, however, the closest "big" galaxy and is the most distant you can see with the naked eye.
