What eccentric Spanish artist depicted melting clocks in a painting entitled, "The Persistence of Memory"?

Salvador Dali was such an eccentric person, it was hard to know if he was telling the truth. For example, he once explained that the got the inspiration for the melting clocks from watching cheese melt. No one knows if that was actually the case.
