What does it mean to be photo enforced?

If a traffic light is photo enforced, then you can get a ticket for running a red light even if a police officer isn't there. The light has cameras attached to it that are set to capture your license plate if you drive through when you aren't supposed to, and the system can automatically mail you a ticket.
