What do you do when you return home after a flood?

Answer Take pictures of the damage.

Return home with the mindset that you are there to evaluate and not move back in. Tearing down the house might sound extreme but is often required based on the extent of the damage. One of the first things you should do is take pictures of the damage for insurance purposes. Don't forget to make smart decisions when it comes to taking pictures in a structurally damaged house. Of course, that's assuming that you bought flood insurance which has to be purchased at least 30 days in advance of the incident.
