What country can we thank for this Thanksgiving dessert?

The first pumpkin pie was very different from the ones that we know and enjoy today, as there were no ovens to bake pies in during the 1600s when early American settlers made pies. The first pumpkin pies would have been made with stewed pumpkins, a variety of seasonings and a shell cooked over ashes. Today, the pie is also popular in Canada.
