What American sports car was introduced in 1954 to compete with European roadsters, but failed to do so?

Answer Kaiser Darrin

The Kaiser Darrin was designed by Howard "Dutch" Darrin and manufactured by Kaiser Motors. The car was one of its designer's last accomplishments and was notable for being the second American automobile (after the 1953 Corvette) to include a fiberglass body and doors sliding into the front fender wells.
