As a jew during World War II, Elsa is hidden away in Jojo Rabbit's home, where she has to explain to the budding Nazi that Jewish people are human, just like him...except she explains it with sarcasm: "We're like you, but human." Though it's a painful process to break through ignorance – spoiler alert! – she does so in the end.
