We think of this desert as an American tradition. What country first made it?

We may think that apple pie is as American as ball games and the Fourth of July, but the first recipe dates back to England in 1381. It was recorded by Geoffrey Chaucer and included apples, a variety of other fruits and an outer pastry. However, no sugar was included in this concoction.
