Answer August 21, 1959
On August 21, 1959, the U.S. officially became a 50-state union when President Eisenhower signed a proclamation admitting Hawaii into the states. At the same time, Eisenhower, also decreed that the American flag would feature 50 stars arranged with five six-star rows and four five-star rows.
