The River Danube actually splits two previously independent cities of Buda and Pest, which lie along its banks. Hungary's capital is gloriously scenic, with the Hungarian Parliament on one side of the riverbank and Buda Castle perched on a hill overlooking the city – gorgeous during the day but even more stunning all lit up at night.
