This social activist hoped to give voice to the silenced women of her country. Who is this Afghani revolutionary?

Answer Meena Keshwar Kamal

"I'm the woman who has awoken, I've arisen and become a tempest through the ashes of my burnt children, I've arisen from the rivulets of my brother's blood, My nation's wrath has empowered me." Meena's poetic words illustrate her drive for freedom of expression and women's education. Meena campaigned against the Russian puppet regime in the '70s, launched a magazine for Afghan women, established schools, hospitals, and handicraft centers for refugee women and children, and led the Afghan resistance movement. She was assassinated by the KHAD (a branch of the KGB) in 1987.
