This Scot saved innumerable lives after discovering penicillin. Name that bacteriologist.
Answer Alexander Fleming
The antibiotic revolution was launched by Alexander Fleming and his discovery of penicillin. The Scottish bacteriologist was renowned in the field already with his work in lysozyme and wound infection. But in 1928, he hit a home-run by accident when he let a contaminated staphylococcus culture plate grow mold while on a two-week vacation. The culture prevented the growth and is now used to heal infections caused by bacteria. Fleming received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for this happy accident.
