Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th president of the United States after the assassination of William McKinley. He was a former governor of New York and later organized a volunteer calvary during the Spanish-American war known as the Rough Riders. Roosevelt survived an assassination attempt of his own when he was shot during a campaign speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but continued to deliver his speech for 90 minutes before seeing a doctor.
