Hela was the firstborn child of Odin and the Goddess of Death. She helped Odin as he set out to conquer the Nine Realms, but she was angry that he did not continue to conquer the universe, so Odin imprisoned her in Hel. Upon Odin's death, Hela was freed from her imprisonment, destroyed Thor's hammer, and went to Asgard to claim the throne.
