This car model began production in 1955 as Ford's flagship full-sized offering. It gradually morphed into a mid-sized car sold in both two- and four-door styles until 1970.

The Fairlane saw production in a myriad of styles over its decade and a half run. It is named after Henry Ford's Dearborn estate, "Fair Lane".
