This car is forever immortalized in 1960s pop culture, often called the "hippie van." What is its official name?

Answer Volkswagen Type 2

Officially named the Volkswagen Type 2, the hippie van sold as much and was as iconic in pop culture as the Type 1 Beetle. While like the Beetle it had a rear-mounted air-cooled engine, it was less pleasant to drive. Due to the "chicken tax" in the early 1970s, the Microbus disappeared from the American roads, despite the fact that it was manufactured overseas until 2013.
