This British-born beauty rocketed to success after MGM head Louis B. Mayer discovered her on a London talent search visit. Can you name her?

Answer Greer Garson

Mayer signed Greer Garson to MGM in 1937; two years later she appeared in her first feature film - 1939's 'Goodbye Mr. Chips' - and earned a Best Actress nomination. By the end of 1945, she had earned five more Oscar noms, including a 1942 win for her role in 'Mrs. Miniver'. Despite Hollywood lore, Loy's Miniver acceptance speech didn't last over an hour; nonetheless, at 5.5 minutes, it remains the longest Oscar acceptance speech in history.
