Conceived by Formula 1 designer Gordon Murray and released in 1993, the McLaren F1 is widely considered to be the first hypercar. Built around the "low weight, high power" formula, the F1 pioneered an extensive use of high-tech low-weight materials in its construction, such as kevlar, carbon fiber, magnesium and titanium. It was powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.1-liter V12 that put out around 620 horsepower, all which made the F1 the fastest car in the world at the time at 240.1 mph.
