Australian actor Heath Ledger (1979-2008) enjoyed a short but stunning film career, including his Oscar-nominated performance in Brokeback Mountain (2005). But he is probably best remembered for his terrifying portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight (2008), released posthumously, for which he won the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Critics' Choice Award, Golden Globe Award and SAG Award (one of only 15 actors to have done so). Ledger's tragic death in 2008 was the result of an accidental prescription drug overdose. He left behind fiancée, actress Michelle Williams, and their two year old daughter Matilda.
