"The Haunting" may be an older, more subtle film without the gore that modern viewers seem to like and expect, but true terror is not bloody. It eats away at the mind, and the director and scriptwriter, who based the film on Shirley Jackson's novel, "The Haunting of Hill House," played on this very well.
