There's disagreement about whether this 1512 work by Leonardo da Vinci is a portrait of himself or someone else. Which of these is a reason why some doubt it's a self-portrait of the Renaissance master?
Answer The subject appears too old
While the subject appears to be in his eighties or nineties, Leonard was only in his late fifties at the time it was created in 1510 — leading some to speculate that it's actually a portrait of his father Piero da Vinci or his uncle Francesco, who both lived to age eighty. On the other side are scholars who point to the portrait's fine quality and consistency with Leonardo's other artwork, as well the subject's resemblance to Raphael's portrait of Leonardo in The School of Athens.
