The U.S. Air Force used to be a part of which military branch?

Before it was established as its own branch in 1947, the Air Force was a part of the U.S. Army. In 1907, the U.S. Army Signal Corps created the Aeronautical Division which over time evolved into the U.S. Army Air Forces.
