The Andy Griffith Show was essentially "born" on February 15, 1960 on The Danny Thomas Show (which was known as Make Room for Daddy in its first three seasons. In the pilot episode, Danny travels through Mayberry and gets pulled over for running a stop sign by Sheriff Andy Taylor. That's when Danny learns that Andy is also the justice of the peace, the mayor of the town, and a bunch of other jobs. The two become friends, and the rest becomes TV history.
