Moon boots were all the rage in the 1980s and were famously worn by Napoleon Dynamite. What event inspired the first moon boot to be designed?

In 1969, after the Apollo 11 mission landed men on the moon, an image of a footprint on the surface of moon became widely circulated. It was based on this photo that Italian manufacturer Tecnica Group of Giavera del Montello in Italy introduced their first moon boots in the early 1970s. The rest is (ugly) fashion history.
