The maps that appeared on the wall of Sheriff Taylor's office had a strange quality. What was odd about them?

During the series, some of the maps that are on the wall behind Andy's desk were actually representations of Idaho and western Montana. Even stranger than that, they were upside down. There is even one map that depicts the border between Nevada and California, also upside-down. Could a P.A. not find North Carolina maps anywhere?
