The first real woman on U.S. currency, what abolitionist was friends with Frederick Douglass?
Answer Susan B. Anthony
Eight decades after leading the women's suffrage movement in the U.S., Susan B. Anthony became the first real woman (who wasn't Lady Liberty) on U.S. currency in 1979. The step forward for women was short-lived, as production of the dollar coins ended in 1981, supposedly because they were too often confused with quarters. Anthony was progressive on many fronts, first being active in the abolitionist movement, handing out anti-slavery petitions, which is how she became lifelong friends with Frederick Douglass.
