The deadliest volcanic eruption of the 20th century took place on what Caribbean island?
Answer Martinique
The 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée took a few weeks, but the largest, most-deadly eruption came on May 8th, when a pyroclastic surge of floating lava particles shot down the southwest flank of the volcano toward the city of Saint-Pierre. Escape was virtually impossible and almost everyone in the city proper was killed by the blast, causing 29,000 deaths.
