The curly, white strings that you sometimes see bunched up near the yolks of eggs actually have a name. What are they called?

Despite their unappealing appearance, Chalazae are actually a sign that an egg is fresh and good. The more the merrier! Chalazae are twisted membranes that join yolks to the end of the shells in all chicken eggs.
