Abarth was founded in 1949 by automotive designer Carlo Abarth, with the scorpion logo chosen to represent Carlo's zodiac sign — scorpio. Even though Abarth made a few cars of their own, the company became best-known as a tuner of Fiat road cars. Fiat took over Abarth in 1971, and since then it has served as the company's performance division.
