The Commerce Clause won out in this ruling about steamboats and a monopoly. Name that decision.

Answer Gibbons v. Ogden

A New York state law granted exclusive navigation privileges to Livingston and Fulton. Ogden had tried to defy the monopoly, but ultimately purchased a license to work within it and entered into business with Gibbons. When the partnership collapsed three years later, Ogden filed a complaint asking the court to restrain Gibbons from operating. The Supreme Court found that navigation was a Congressional power covered by the Commerce Clause.
