The BMW 2002 Turbo was a milestone car for BMW as the brand's first turbocharged model, and one of the first high-performance compact executive cars. Why did they call it the 2002?

Answer It had a 2.0-liter engine and 2 doors

The Turbo model was the pinnacle of the BMW 02 Series. Based on the less powerful, naturally aspirated 1600-2 variant, the Turbo had around 170 horsepower with a top speed of around 130 mph — not bad for a 1973 compact car. However, because it was introduced right before the 1973 Oil Crisis, the demand was low and only a little over 1,600 units were made.
