Pachisi's offspring games go by many names around the world: Barjis in Israel, Jordan, and much of the Middle East, Parchís in Spain and Morocco, Parqués in Colombia, and so on. In the United States, the game was introduced in the 1800s by John Hamilton, who originally called it "Patcheesi." When the mispronunciation "Pot-cheesy" started taking hold, the name was swiftly changed to "Parcheesi."
