Although it once served as a symbol of war and division and as part of the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate is now a symbol of peace. It was first used, however, by Napoleon after his Prussian defeat in the Battle of Jena-Auerstedt in 1806. In fact, Napoleon took its quadriga (horse and chariot) all the way to Paris...which was later returned when Napoleon was conquered in 1814.
