The Suzuki Jimny is arguably one of the greatest four-wheel-drive off-roaders to ever be manufactured. When did it make its debut?

In 1970, Suzuki debuted the Jimny as a smaller, off-road competent, and agile alternative to the other 4x4 cars available at the time. The Jimny was the first and only mass-produced four-wheeler to be classified as a "Kei" car in Japan. In order to qualify as such, the Jimny had to meet the external proportions stipulated by the Japanese Transportation Guidelines.
