Sometimes called simply "The Causeway," the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is the longest continuous bridge over water. About how long is the longest of the two parallel spans?

Answer 24 miles

Opened in 1956, the longest span of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is 23.83 miles long and is supported by 9,500 concrete pilings. For many years, "The Causeway" held the Guinness World Record as the longest bridge over water in the world. But in 2011, the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge in China was named the 'longest bridge over water'. So two separate records were created: one for "continuous" and one for "aggregate".
