Some artists use earbuds instead of stage monitors for their monitor mixes. What are these called?

IEMs usually consist of a wireless transmitter that sends an audio signal via radio frequencies to a belt pack worn by the performer. The performer wears earbuds that can range from a generic set you might see with an MP3 player to molds specially fitted to the wearer's ears. While providing a degree of consistent control not met by traditional stage monitors, the trade-off can be low-end that's lacking and a feeling of disconnect by the performer from the audience.
