Social Studies: When the southern states seceded, what was their government called?

While the North was known as the Union during the Civil War, the South was known as the Confederacy. The eleven southern states that seceded from the Union include South Carolina (the first to secede), Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Virginia.
