So-called "custodian helmets" are not worn by custodians, but rather by whom?
Answer British police
Known as "bobbies," British constables and police working the beat on the street have been donning "custodian helmets" for years. There are two types: flat caps and ones with peaks on top, worn by ranks above sergeant. It is thought that they're based on the spiked "pickelhaubes" that were sported by the Prussian Army.
