The puzzle of "Shook Ones" was finally solved in 2011 by Timon Heinke. He deciphered the song while listening to Herbie Hancock's song "Jessica". According to him, Havoc slowed down the song's piano melody at two separate pitches to build a two-bar loop that sounds more like a bass guitar than a piano.
