Set in 1977, this early 90s drama was an expansion of its writer/director's amateur mockumentary entitled 'The Dirk Diggler Story.'

Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights (1997) tells the wild and tragic story of fictional porn star Dirk Diggler, portrayed by Mark Wahlberg. The film earned numerous award nominations and several wins, including a supporting actor Golden Globe for Burt Reynolds' portrayal adult film director Jack Horner. Somewhat awkwardly, Reynolds had publicly disassociated himself from the movie — and fired his agent — after seeing an early rough cut.
