Seneca Crane was the Head Gamemaster for the 74th Hunger Games - the first in which Katniss was a tribute. However, his bloodthirsty, brutally creative ways eventually backfired on him, and by letting Peeta and Katniss share a joint victory, he had signed his own death warrant. President Snow did not approve of the decision, and had Crane killed before the next Games.
