Rising in the Valdai Hills northwest of Moscow, this is Europe's longest river

Located almost entirely within Russia, the 3,531 km (2,194 mi) Volga flows through Central to Southern Russia and then into the Caspian Sea. The river is a national symbol in Russian culture and is often referred to as Волга-матушка Volga-Matushka (Mother Volga) in Russian folklore.
