Per the FMCSA, what is the minimum tread depth for a steer tire?
Answer 4/32 of an inch
The FMCSA regulates that any steer tire must have a minimum tread depth of 4/32 of an inch. This is for every major tread groove. Any spot with less tread depth will lead to a citation. Drive and trailer tires have a minimum tread depth of 2/32 of an inch. The CVSA has a different regulation.
