That's right - the Michelin Man was not always bright white and kinda cuddly. At first, he was Bibendum, derived from the poet Horace's phrase “Nunc est bibendum," meaning “Time to drink." Weird- and not particularly safe - for a mascot associated with driving. Bibendum was basically a "Man of Tires" who showed his toughness by drinking a cup full of nails and broken glass.
