The main reason behind the smoothness and the linear power delivery of V12 engines is rather simple. Just like straight-six engines, V12s are symmetrical in their operation - when a piston in one of the cylinder goes up, the piston on the opposing cylinder goes down. This means that both straight-sixes and V12s perfect engine balance and almost no vibration if tuned properly.
