One of America's most recognizable landmarks, Mount Rushmore depicts four U.S. presidents. Who is the second from the left, next to George Washington?
Answer Thomas Jefferson
The idea for Mount Rushmore came from South Dakota historian Duane Robinson, who originally proposed Western heroes such as Lewis and Clark, Crazy Horse, and Buffalo Bill Cody. But sculptor Gutzon Borglum chose a presidential theme for more national appeal. The project began in 1927 and ended in 1941 due to a lack of funding.
